What are some ideas for bespoke parquet panels?

A custom parquet can be a variety of things. The first thing that some of our clients request is that we make them a custom medallion for their floor. This medallion can be of anything and everything that you can think of, a logo, a family crest, an important date etc. The list is endless. Another idea that comes to mind when it comes to bespoke parquets is perhaps making it appear as if it was from a certain era. For example having bespoke parquets that resemble the 70s or the 80s. Lastly, part of a bespoke parquet could be designed borders.

Why choose a bespoke parquet floor?

  • Different grades of timber
  • Choice of laying patterns
  • Competitive prices
  • Long lifespan
  • Oil or lacquer finishes are possible
  • It's style is timeless

Solid or Engineered? What's the difference?

As it says on the tin, solid oak planks are completely made of oak from the bottom, through the tongue and groove to the wear layer on top.
Engineered, however, is made up of multiple layers. The bottom section and tongue and groove is made of plywood (lots of thin layers of wood with alternating grain direction to prevent extreme expansion and contraction). Attached to this is a layer of oak that forms the wear layer.

There are lots of valid pros and cons as to whether to have engineered or solid planks. In short, solid oak is much thicker, lasts longer, is more substantial and has a thicker wear layer, this means it can be sanded back many times. Engineered is thinner however more stable with temperature and moisture change meaning it is suitable for underfloor heating.

What are the different standard parquet sizes that are available?

Although we make custom sizes...
Standard solid parquet - 16 x 70 x 280
Standard engineered parquet - 14 x 90 x 450

What is the process of installing custom parquets? What is the wood floor installation cost?

First the subfloor has to be prepared, this can include a damp proof membrane (D.P.M), smoothing compound, plywood etc. The aim is to achieve a subfloor that is dry, smooth and flat. The wood flooring is then stuck to the subfloor with a flexible adhesive ( It can also be installed by nailing or floating).
The cost of fitting an oak floor starts at £20 per square metre and varies based on room size, shape and floor preparation.
