What is the best wooden flooring to buy from floor manufacturers in Cardiff?

Hardwood flooring such as oak, maple & cherry are the most durable and long lasting wood types. They are highly recommended especially if you live in a busy home or have kids and pets. These floor types can be expensive, so for anyone on a budget we recommend softer wood such as pine.

Solid or Engineered diamond block hardwood flooring? How are they different?

As it says on the tin, solid oak planks are completely made of oak from the bottom, through the tongue and groove to the wear layer on top.
Engineered, however, is made up of multiple layers. The bottom section and tongue and groove is made of plywood (lots of thin layers of wood with alternating grain direction to prevent extreme expansion and contraction). Attached to this is a layer of oak that forms the wear layer.

There are lots of valid pros and cons as to whether to have engineered or solid planks. In short, solid oak is much thicker, lasts longer, is more substantial and has a thicker wear layer, this means it can be sanded back many times. Engineered is thinner however more stable with temperature and moisture change meaning it is suitable for underfloor heating.

What is the process of hardwood flooring construction and manufacturing?

Panel flooring are made from single pieces of wood with tongue and groove edges that will fit together. The planks will fit together without creating gaps between them thus creating a solid floor surface. At the final stage it is sealed or stained with several coats of finish – this is done to change the colour and to protect it from water, chemicals etc. However, you can purchase floor panels that have an unprotected finish to save on cost. Pre-finished floors are easier and quicker to install. Panel flooring can also be manufactured with different patterns to meet our clients individual preferences, some of the patterns include: straight, random, diagonal, parquet and herringbone.

What colour hardwood flooring is most popular?

According to flooring trends for the year 2019 -  cool tones of grey, or white washed colours are popular. Most of our clients want a natro finish or like previously mentioned a washed out finish. Another trend that is regaining popularity is a lacquer or gloss finish. Lacquer and gloss finishes are the best when wanting to protect your panel flooring.

What is the cost of installing diamond block hardwood flooring in Cardiff?

First the subfloor has to be prepared, this can include a damp proof membrane (D.P.M), smoothing compound, plywood etc. The aim is to achieve a subfloor that is dry, smooth and flat. The wood flooring is then stuck to the subfloor with a flexible adhesive ( It can also be installed by nailing or floating).
The cost of fitting an oak floor starts at £20 per square metre and varies based on room size, shape and floor preparation.
