What is engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood flooring is sometimes called mass timber, composite wood or man made wood. It produced by layered thin slices of hardwood. Most of our engineered wood flooring is pre-finished. The bottom section and tongue and groove is made of plywood (lots of thin layers of wood with alternating grain direction to prevent extreme expansion and contraction). Attached to this is a layer of oak that forms the wear layer.
Does engineered wood flooring need an underlay?
Engineered wood is generally floated over an underlay and then by glue or clickable parts it is joined together. The right underlay will also protect your floor, increase its lifespan and maintain a certain quality of the floor itself. An underlay will protect your floor from the everyday wear & tear that is bound to happen from just walking around your home or business. It also makes your floor warmer because of the added insulation between the concrete or sub-floor and your new flooring.
How thick is engineered wood flooring? How wide are engineered hardwood floorboards?
Engineered wood flooring can vary in thickness. Our floors are available in thicknesses such as 12mm, 14mm, and 21 mm. Additionally the veneer that forms the top layer of the engineered floorboard ranges from 3 to 6mm this is directly dependent on the thickness of the overall floorboard. Engineered hardwood floorboards range in widths anywhere from 100mm to 220mm.

Engineered hardwood floors can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years depending on the thickness of the individual floor panel.
What is the installation process and cost of engineered floorboards?
First the subfloor has to be prepared, this can include a damp proof membrane (D.P.M), smoothing compound, plywood etc. The aim is to achieve a subfloor that is dry, smooth and flat. The wood flooring is then stuck to the subfloor with a flexible adhesive ( It can also be installed by nailing or floating).
The cost of fitting an oak floor starts at £20 per square metre and varies based on room size, shape and floor preparation.
