Solid or Engineered? What's the difference?
As it says on the tin, solid oak planks are completely made of oak from the bottom, through the tongue and groove to the wear layer on top.
Engineered, however, is made up of multiple layers. The bottom section and tongue and groove is made of plywood (lots of thin layers of wood with alternating grain direction to prevent extreme expansion and contraction). Attached to this is a layer of oak that forms the wear layer.
There are lots of valid pros and cons as to whether to have engineered or solid planks. In short, solid oak is much thicker, lasts longer, is more substantial and has a thicker wear layer, this means it can be sanded back many times. Engineered is thinner however more stable with temperature and moisture change meaning it is suitable for underfloor heating.

What is the process of construction and manufacturing of parquet and hardwood flooring look like?
Hardwood flooring can be made from a variety of different wood types. However, parquet flooring is usually made from expensive & luxurious wood types such as oak, walnut, maple, cherry, mahogany and other exotic types of hardwood. The hardwood is later on transformed into parquet. Generally, we give our clients a choice between solid parquet of engineered parquet. Solid parquet is made from solid pieces of timber, whereas engineered parquet is made from layers of wood with a wooden veneer at the top. However, regardless of which you choose the look of the flooring will be the same.
What is the difference between parquet and hardwood flooring?
Parquet flooring is different because hardwood planks are usually wider than 10cm and longer than 1m. Parquet flooring is usually constructed of smaller pieces and arranged into a more and decorative pattern. Some of the popular patterns that can be constructed due to parquet flooring is herringbone, chevron, checkerboard or basket wave.
What types of parquet flooring products are there available in Bristol?
There are three types of parquet flooring available in our new warehouse and show room available for our clients. The first type is engineered wood parquet which is the most traditional and most common approach. This type of flooring is made up of several layers thus making it very strong. The top of it is known as veneer which is generally about 4 to 6mm thick. The second type of parquet flooring is laminate parquet which is made from three layers: high density fiberboard, medium density fiberboard and a decorative paper to protect it from nasty scratches and dents. The last type of parquet flooring we have available is luxury vinyl tile (LVT) parquet. This type of flooring is perfect for your property if you are looking to get a product that gives you 15,20,25 years or a lifetime warranty. This is perfect flooring if you have kids and pets. These floors will withstand a busy household and a never major advantage is it is also waterproof.

What is the process of installation of parquet and hardwood flooring?
- Preparing a concrete or sub-floor for glue down installation
- Applying the adhesive
- There are a few different ways we can lay down your parquet or hardwood flooring: gluing down, adhesive backing, or nailed down
Installation - What is the process and cost?
First the subfloor has to be prepared, this can include a damp proof membrane (D.P.M), smoothing compound, plywood etc. The aim is to achieve a subfloor that is dry, smooth and flat. The wood flooring is then stuck to the subfloor with a flexible adhesive ( It can also be installed by nailing or floating).
The cost of fitting an oak floor starts at £20 per square metre and varies based on room size, shape and floor preparation.
